APEF: Association for the Promotion of Leaf Extracts in Nutrition

Registered with the Préfecture de Police de Paris on 29 June 1993 No. 93/2617

Our goals
APEF’s objective is to disseminate the concept of leaf concentrateion worldwide, where possible, with local self-sufficiency to ensure that the needs of all malnourished populations are met one day.
The development can be done :
At a family level,
with a simple method developed by SOYNICA in NICARAGUA, using green leaves from vegetables or local plants and even shrubs. The volume produced is very small. The process is adapted to the needs of a malnourished family in a rural environment, or of a few individuals. It is described in the ‘Family Method’.
At a local level,
of a village or group of villages, using the traditional LC manufacturing process developed by Leaf For Life, based on small, high-performance equipment. Disadvantage: high cost.
At a regional level,
by setting up small semi-industrial units on fertile, irrigated land, provided that the fibre content is used to feed ruminants, in particular dairy cows or beef cattle, for direct consumption.
But the LCs produced by France remain significant:
For consumption in regions with unsuitable agricultural land:
land, climate, water resources, in cities, in countries with great political instability or a weak economic environment, and finally, in areas where millions of people are currently suffering from malnutrition and could not be quickly helped without production and external aid.
To launch the first consumer programmes
dans les régions candidates à l’auto production et avant l’installation d’un atelier d’extraction.
In food aid programmes
mixed in ready-to-use feeds. Thanks to their richness, EFLs can correct nutritional deficiencies in locally available or imported cereals and tubers at a very low cost.
